Q. Where do I go to vote?
A. Currently, the Town of Dighton has only 1 voting precinct. All elections are held in the Gymnasium at the Dighton Elementary School, 1250 Somerset Ave. (Rt. 138). The entrance to school is on Center St.
Q. When is the Annual Town Election held?
A. The Annual Town Election is normally held on the First Monday in March. Polls are open from 10:00AM to 8:00PM. When the Presidential Primary is scheduled for the First Tuesday in March, the Board of Selectmen shall vote to change the date of the Annual Town Election. All election warrants are posted in the Dighton and North Dighton Post Offices, the Town Hall and the South Fire Station on Main St.
Q. How do I register to vote?
A. Voter registration forms are available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Mail-in forms are available at the Town Hall and Library. Also, you can register to vote at the Mass. Registry of Motor Vehicles when you renew your driver’s license or register a vehicle.
Q. What is the purpose of the annual town census?
A. Massachusetts General Laws mandates that cities and towns conduct an annual census of residents as of January 1. Annual census forms are mailed in the beginning of January. The local census is used not only to maintain voting and jury lists, but also to aid in school enrollment projections, public safety and senior citizens’ needs and for certain privileges, such as certain veterans’ benefits and reduced tuition rates at state colleges and universities. The census information does not register anyone to vote, but failure to answer may result in a voter’s name being removed from the voter’s list.
Q. How do I license my dog?
A. Dog licenses are available April 1 of each year. Proof of rabies vaccination and, if applicable, proof of spaying/neutering are required to obtain a license. Licenses are available at the Town Clerk’s Office or by mail (a downloadable form is available). The fee is $6.00 for females, and $3.00 for males and spayed females.
Q. How do I obtain a marriage license?
A. You can apply for a Marriage License at any Town Clerk’s Office in Massachusetts. The bride and groom must appear together and both individuals are required to have a blood test. Both parties must be 18 years of age or older. The fee for file a Marriage Intention in the Town of Dighton is $25.00.

Q. How do I obtain a copy of a birth, death, or marriage record?
A. Normally, a birth record is recorded in the city or town where the birth occurred and in the city or town where the parents lived at the time of the birth.
A death record is recorded in the city or town where the death occurred and in the city or town where the person lived prior to their death.
A marriage record is recorded in the city or town where marriage intention was filed.
Certified copies of these records are available at the Town Clerk’s Office or by mail (downloadable request forms are available). The fee for a short form birth certificate is $5.00; the fee for a long form certificate for a birth, death or marriage record is $10.00. A long form birth certificate is required for obtaining a passport and for travel outside the country.

Q. Who must file a Business Certificate?
A. Any person(s) conducting business under any title other than any title other than the complete real name of the owner, whether individually or as a partnership.
Any corporation doing business in a name other than the corporate name. (Must be filed by corporate officer). INC., CORP., LTD. may only be used by a corporation.
